Tony Dixon – Lead Trumpet
Tony Dixon was born in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. He started playing the cornet at the age of 9 and eventually became principal cornet of Todmorden Old Brass Band.
In 1976 Tony joined the Band of the Irish Guards rising to the rank of sergeant before leaving in 1994 to pursue a freelance career. Whilst still serving in the Army he had begun ‘depping’ on West End Shows, and has since worked on Starlight Express, Jolson, Guys ‘n’ Dolls, Greace, Fame, the Rat Pack and Sinatra.
On leaving the army in 1994 Tony joined Chris Smith’s String of Pearls Orchestra as lead trumpet. He has also worked with the Glenn Miller Orchestra (UK), the Mike Westbrook Orchestra, Back to Basie, Echoes of Ellington, Skin Deep, Johnny Howard, Andy Ross, Freddy Staff and even the Chrisie Lee Orchestra!
Tony joined the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in 2000 and was promoted to the position of Lead Trumpet in January 2006.
