Mark Chandler - Trumpet
Mark took up the trumpet at the age of 8 and joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at the age of 11. During his 10 years with NYJO he played with Humphrey Lyttelton, Johnny Dankworth, Nancy Wilson, Shorty Rogers and a host of other jazz greats. At the age of 16 he joined the Ken Macintosh band at the Hammersmith Palais, leaving two years later to play a summer season with Matt Monroe and then joining the Johnny Howard organisation playing for dancing and cabaret at the London Rooms.
Mark went freelance in 1980 working with the BBC Big Band, George Russell, Elvin Jones, Barbara Streisand, Johnny Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Shirley Bassey, Ted Heath (under the direction of Don Lusher), Jack Jones, Vic Damone, Al Martino and Rob McConnell. He was also a frequent contributor on TV and Radio shows such as Wogan, the Royal Variety Show, George Michael, The Pogues, Summertime Special, and the Sophie Lauren Special sound track. During this time he also worked on a number of West End shows including 42nd Street, Miss Siagon, Guys and Dolls, City of Angels and Starlight Express.
In 1997 Mark stopped playing, moved to Huddersfield, and for 10 years worked in IT. He started playing again in 2007, guesting on several jazz albums, and joined the Syd Lawrence Orchestra in April 2010.
He has two children - Tim and William - and lives between homes in Huddersfield and Nottingham with girlfriend Julie, waiting for the kids to grow up and move on!
